Government in the forefront of Biometric
implementation
Like many Governments around the world, the
Australian Federal Government has seen the need for
improved security and has embraced Biometric technology.
They have done their research and are now implementing
Biometric solutions.
Recently, Centrelink put out a tender for 31,000
Biometric fingerprint scanners. Their need for
security and privacy of client records was not being
adequately served by a system of passwords. As a
result, Centrelink have selected a fingerprint scanner
as a secure log-on device for their PC's.
In his recent budget speech, the Federal Treasurer,
Peter Costello said - " We are also committing $226
million to further enhance border protection, including
new technologies such as ePassports and Biometrics, to
help border authorities to verify traveler's identities
quickly and reliably."
With the Government leading the way, we can all look
forward to coming into contact with Biometric technology
to help protect us and ensure our security in the
future. |
